Ohhh the Winter Blues!
As I sit here and write this post, it is currently 29° and dropping 😭 I’m not a cold weather person yet I moved to 3700 ft elevation! They say it’s supposed to warm up in a few days and hopefully we'll be past the last freeze/frost of the season.
I know I shouldn't have but I've already planted a few things. The cabbage and herbs are in the garden along with a few flower’s so far. We have much to do through the end of the month since my sister will be visiting and I want her to see the progress we've made.
Since we purchased the property in August we’ve managed to get some remodeling done inside the house to at least make it more comfortable living. We’ve added to the exterior with a fire pit and some landscape maintenance. We got a couple of chicken’s and let them work on the garden over winter, added a Rooster and 6 new Pullets that should be going out to their little coop next week.
This week we added a few fruit trees and some berry bushes. I’ll add some pictures soon of the various areas of our property. We live in the mountains of Western North Carolina so the land is far from flat but definitely manageable for what we want to do.
Still pretty brown here, but slowly getting some leaves on the tree’s!
The build process. We have a few more things to do to finish up the coop. We'll be adding gutter’s and a rain collection system to water the chickens. There are also herbs and veggies planted around the run to help feed the chickens and lower the costs. They free range during the day, even during snow! Who ever said chickens hate being cold and wet haven't met my crazy chicks!
